Apple, Google and Al Jazeera Win Branding War

The search engine community has been reporting today about how Apple has replaced Google as the brand with the most global impact (according to brandchannel.com). The iPod and other products have propelled Apple into the top spot acing out Google, which has won the top dog honors since 2002.

What I think is even more interesting than this is that Arabic media channel, Al Jazeera has jumped into the number 5 position, beating out names like Coca Cola for top honors. Because of the Iraq War, many people have been following the news more closely and the name Al Jazeera is everywhere in the news media. Al Jazeera even made an appearance at this year’s Democratic National Convention.

With this kind of brand awareness, I can see many marketing opportunities for Al Jazeera in the near future such as the Al Jazeera News Search Engine, Al Jazeera Web Hosting and even the bubblier and more flavorful Al Jazeera Cola. CNN had better look out and Google had better be on guard, since there is a new global player in town who is ready, willing and able to bump their brand-awareness out of the public consciousness and into a new dimension. Then again, maybe its about time this has happened.
