Google Link Spam Update – December 2022

link spam update by google

The Google Search algorithm updates are not over for the year yet, as Google has just released a December 2022 link spam algorithm. This update will be implemented globally and will take about two weeks to be fully functional.

According to Google, the December 2022 link spam update will be rolled out in about two weeks. Ranking may change as spammy links are neutralized and any credit passed by these unnatural links are lost. This update will impact all languages.

Google said in previous link spam updates that “owners should follow the best practices for both incoming and outgoing links. Producing high-quality content and improving user experience always beats out manipulating links. Promote your site using appropriately tagged links and monetize it with appropriately tagged affiliate links.”

In the 2018 Google spam report, Google mentions SpamBrain to indicate spam trends. Google references SpamBrain to detect spam on links. Google employs its “machine learning systems” to accomplish this.

SpamBrain can now detect sites that link out in order to pass spam, as well as spam directly, Google said.

The December 2022 helpful content system is still being rolled out, while this spam update is being rolled out. Google is still progressing with the rollout of the helpful content system.

Ranking drops in Google over the next two weeks may be due to this new link spam update. Make sure your links are natural and follow Google’s webmaster guidelines. Work on improving your website to naturally attract new links over time.

Google has noted in previous link spam updates that “site owners should stick to the established norms of links, both incoming and outgoing. Produce high-quality content and enhance user satisfaction rather than manipulating links.

This is an interesting update in that it is unknown as of this writing whether this will affect paid blog post writing and linking sites like FatJoe and The Hoth. Stay tuned for more information on this one!
