FiberCity for Placentia, CA – The Need for Speed

FiberCity Placentia, CA

I have already talked about how Fullerton, CA is in the process of becoming a FiberCity, with the introduction of a very high-speed fiber optic network. Now, next-door neighbor Placentia is also scheduled to become a FiberCity as well.

According to Telecompaper, “SiFi Networks received a grand permission from the city council of Placentia, California to construct the fibre optic network throughout the locality. When complete, the fibre network will serve every residential and business property in the city with broadband internet which is technologically sustainable. Placentia will also benefit from the ability to create and sustain Smart City applications to improve the City’s services, transportation and environment to name just a few of the possibilities.”

The fiber optic network is expected to have a huge impact on the economic development of the city. Consumers will be able to search for local products and services at lightning speeds and business websites will be fast to load over desktop and mobile devices, which will increase interactions with consumers and decrease the bounce rate of visitors leaving the websites.

The downside of this FiberCity network, however, is that it’s not offering the same TV setup as Spectrum or AT&T is. But, FiberCity does offer solutions for those residential customers who want to “cut the cord” with the big cable companies.

For sheer speed, the fiber optic network has stated that 1,000 mps is what can be expected and compare that to 100 mps for Spectrum or 25 mps for AT&T.
